In the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the town of Almora is a cantonment and municipal board located in the Almora district. In 1568, Almora was established. It is regarded as the cultural center of Uttarakhand’s Kumaon area. The city bus station is 85 kilometers away from the nearest railway station, which is Kathgodam.
The name Almora comes from “Kilmora,” a little shrub that grew nearby and was used to clean the temple’s utensils. Kilmori, the name was given to those who purchased this plant from the market. The name eventually became “Almori,” and the location was known as “Almora.” It is situated above a ridge in the Kumaon Hills near the Himalayan range’s southernmost point. It is a horse saddle-shaped hill covered by thick forests of fir and pine trees. The rivers Suyal (Salmale) and Koshi (Kaushiki) run alongside the city. In the distance, one can see the Himalayas covered in snow.
Baichaldeo, the Katyuri ruler, owned the ancient town of Almora. At the beginning of the Chand kingdom at Baramandal, he gave the central portion of this land to a Gujrati Brahmin named Sri Chand Tiwari. In 1568, Kalyan Chand established the town of Almora at this marvelous location. It was known as ”Rajapur” during the Chand Kings’Kings’ rule. On some old copper plates, the name “Rajpur” is mentioned. In the 1960s, the Almora district included the undeveloped Bageshwar and Champawat districts during that time.
In the Kumaon Hills stands the peaceful village of Almora. The significant characteristics include its handicraft market, famous Shiva temples, cuisine, and cultural heritage.
