The nation’s longest single-lane bridge, the Dobra-Chanti, was opened by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on the eve of Uttarakhand’s 20th anniversary of its creation. “The Tehri lake bridge serves as a further reminder of the sacrifices made by the residents of ancient Tehri Garhwal to make room for the construction of the Tehri dam. We are quite proud of the project now since it benefits the entire nation in addition to the state. In addition to water for cultivation, it will supply electricity “according to Rawat.
The bridge is situated in Tehri, has a 592 meter span, and is around 260.5 metres height and is the tallest in the world. It took over 14 years to build the 725-meter-long Dobra-Chanti suspension bridge across Tehri Lake. The total cost of building this bridge is 295.92 crores. The bridge is an essential part of the Tehri Dam & Hydro Power Project, a multiuse river valley initiative that aims to use the Bhagirathi River’s resources for irrigation and hydroelectric power. The bridge joins the two sides of the Tehri Reservoir, one of the biggest artificial lakes in Asia, and is located in the Tehri Garhwal area. The surrounding settlement of Dobra and Chanti Peak, which is close to the bridge, are the namesakes of the bridge. It creates opportunities for growth in addition to providing a link between the residents of Pratap Nagar town and the district office. The travel between the towns now takes 1.5 hours instead of 5hours.

Unique technology was used in the construction of this bridge. Around the bridge, there are also electronic traffic control systems and high-power street lights installed. When a car tries to drive itself off the road, it will alert the controller, halt, and send the device a red signal. When the bridge is finished, the three lakh people who live in Tehri will no longer need to travel 100 miles to get to the district office.
“Railings of 440 meters each must be installed on both sides of the Dobra Chanti bridge. Following that, the railings need to be coated, which will need some time. By the next year, the bridge would be accessible to traffic”, according to Shiv Kumar Rai, the Public Works Department’s supervising engineer. The yearly Tehri Lake Festival makes the lake a popular tourist destination, and in the future, even more people are anticipated to visit.
