Lansdowne is a peaceful town with old-world royal charm. It is surrounded by a vacant area of lush greenery in the Himalayas. It is 1,700 m above sea level and has pine and oak trees. The hill station has adorable churches, blooming thickets, springs, and ponds. On 5 November 1887, the first battalion of Garhwal Rifles migrated from Almora to Lansdowne. After Almora, Lansdowne was the only city left in the late 1870s.
When Lansdowne became well-known, entrepreneurs from all over the country and state came to do business there. There are houses and a church in Lansdowne that were built during the British era before independence. The Government of Uttarakhand and the Garhwal Rifles take great care of Lansdowne, making it an excellent place for tourism. A road between Jaiharikhal and Lansdowne is called the “cool road.” During British rule, Indians were prohibited from using it; it was only for Europeans. For Indians to travel anywhere, a road parallel to this one was used.
People come to see the War Memorial on the Parade Ground of the Garhwal Rifles Center. It is necessary to get permission from the military authorities ahead of time. Some interesting places near the city are Tip n Top View Point, Santoshi Mata Temple, Bhullatal Lake, St. Mary’s Church, Lover’s Lane, and Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple, which is the most famous temple in Lansdowne is the most prominent tourist destination for devotees during monsoon season. The Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple, the Bhairav Garhi Temple, and the Bhim Pakora can all be reached by a day trip from the city. In the fall, this hill town also hosts the “Sharadotsava” (Festival of Autumn) every year. Kitchener Lines is where the old graveyard is. These graves, which date back to the mid-1850s, are where many war heroes are buried.

How to Reach?
By Train: – You can drive or take the Train to get to this hill station, which is close to Delhi. Kotdwar which is 44 km away and 370 m above sea level, is the nearest railway stop. Lansdowne is more than 1,300 m higher than Kotdwara. The road from Kotdwara to Lansdowne is very steep and has beautiful views.
By Air: – Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport. It is 152 km away and can be reached by taking the Kotdwar-Haridwar road.
By Route: – To get to Lansdowne by car, you can start in Delhi and drive through Meerut, Bijnor, Najibabad, Kotdwar, and then to Lansdowne. Since the Delhi-Merrut Expressway opened, most roads are in good shape. They painted a big sign with directions on rocks at the point where the NH-119 curves to the right and goes to Lansdowne. Pauri is 83 km away, and Delhi is about 250 km away.
